Center for Humanities-based Health Artificial Intelligence Innovation (CHHAIN)

  • In health AI, accurate models and validated use cases get attention, but only trustworthy design drives adoption among providers and other user communities in healthcare. Providers and patients are unlikely to adopt technologies they don’t trust, and we lack sufficient understanding of what builds this trust and what erodes it.

  • CHHAIN works across three core activities:

    • Defining trustworthy AI through patient voices

    • Translating humanities insights into clinical AI settings

    • Public engagement and policy translation

    • National Endowment for the Humanities

    • Genentech Inc.

The goals of this research center are to explore how trust relationships form between makers and users of AI technologies in healthcare, and identify prime opportunities for shaping trustworthy AI design.
